If you’re like us, you love maximizing every moment of your RV adventures. Whether it’s taking scenic drives, hitting off-road trails, exploring local attractions, or trying regional cuisines, it’s all about making unforgettable memories on our RV travels. And one of our favorite ways to have FUN is by driving exciting vehicles and immersing ourselves in the great outdoors.
While we love our RV and truck, they don’t quite match the thrill of a sporty car or a purpose-built off-road vehicle. Maybe you’ve been considering ways to bring fun toys along on your adventures, which can be a logistical and financial challenge.
That’s why we were thrilled to recently discover Polaris Adventures. This program is ideal for RVers and travelers as you can rent a variety of Polaris vehicles all around North America. These include the Polaris RZR, Slingshot 3-wheel roadster, General utility vehicles, snowmobiles, pontoon boats, and even Indian Motorcycles.
Let’s dive into all the details, take you on a couple of adventures, and share how you can make the most of Polaris Adventures to transform your RV travels, too!
Our Love Affair with Adventure Vehicles
Before we dive deeper into the world of Polaris rentals, let me share a bit about our history with fun vehicles and adventures. Long before we started full-timing RVing in 2014, we were always seeking exciting ways to explore. I grew up riding dirt bikes and ATVs, and even raced high-speed shifter go-karts. Plus, Julie and I have long shared a passion for sporty cars and spirited driving.
When we first hit the road full-time, we towed a MINI Cooper S Convertible behind our Class A motorhome. Some of our favorite memories are cruising down scenic roads with the top down, feeling the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces.
Later we switched to a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk for some light off-roading, and recently added a Ford F250 truck to our family for towing our fifth wheel.
But here’s the thing: as much as we love our RV and truck, they don’t quite scratch that itch for high-octane adventure. That’s why we were excited to discover Polaris Adventures – as renting any one of their vehicles offers the perfect complement to our RV lifestyle (and even at home) year-round. Without having to worry about the hassle or cost of owning, maintaining, or transporting them!
Why Polaris Adventures is a Game-Changer for RV Travelers
Polaris Adventures offers unique and exhilarating ways to enhance your travel experiences by providing access to a wide range of high-performance rental vehicles in various destinations nationwide (yes, even in Hawaii). These rentals allow travelers to explore terrains and waterways that not always accessible. Eliminating the need for ownership, maintenance, and towing, renting from Polaris Adventures makes it convenient and cost-effective for RVers, travelers, and outdoors enthusiasts to enjoy the latest models and features, and create unforgettable memories on every journey.
Let’s take a look at the ways these have changed the game for us RVers.
12 Key Benefits of Renting a Polaris
1. Versatility. From rugged mountain trails with a Polaris RZR to cruising coastal highways in a Slingshot or hitting the lake in a pontoon boat, there’s a Polaris vehicle for every terrain and adventure.
2. Expand Your Horizons. Access trails, backroads, and waterways that your RV and regular vehicle simply can’t reach. It’s like having a secret key to nature’s hidden playground!
3. Pack Light, Adventure Big. RV storage space is always at a premium and staying within safe RV weight ratings is a constant battle. Instead of permanently dedicating valuable storage space and weight to adventure vehicles, you can simply rent them as needed. This keeps your RV setup lighter and more nimble.
4. Location-Specific Adventures. Different destinations call for different vehicles. Rent a RZR for mountain trails in Colorado, a Slingshot for coastal highways in California, or a pontoon boat for lake days in Arizona – all without changing your RV setup.
5. No Towing Hassles. Towing a trailer with ATVs or a boat behind your RV can be challenging and limit maneuverability. With rentals, you avoid this hassle entirely.
6. Enhance Social Experiences. Renting multiple vehicles allows you to share adventures with fellow RVers or visiting friends and family, creating unforgettable group memories.
7. Flexible Adventure Planning. Spontaneous side trip? No problem. You can easily incorporate Polaris Adventure rentals into your RV itinerary without long-term commitments.
8. Convenience. No need to tow extra vehicles, worry about maintenance, or clean it afterward. Just rent and go have fun!
9. Cost-Effective. Enjoy high-end adventure vehicles without the hefty price tag of ownership. (And as RVers, we know a thing or two about the cost of ownership, and finding ways to save money, right?)
10. Latest Models. Experience the newest Polaris machines with all the cool gadgets and gizmos. It’s like test-driving the future!
11. Maintenance-Free Fun. Enjoy the thrill of reliable, high-performance vehicles without worrying about their upkeep. The rental company handles all maintenance, so you can focus on fun.
12. Try Before You Buy. If you’re considering adding an adventure vehicle to your RV lifestyle, rentals allow you to test different models in various terrains before making a big investment. It’s like dating before marriage, but for vehicles!
Our Thrilling Polaris Rental Experiences (so far)
We had our first Polaris Adventure was in May, our second was in June, and now we’re hooked! Let’s take you along for the ride on our adventures so far.
1. Cruising Colorado National Monument in a Polaris Slingshot
Picture this: The sun is shining, the wind is whipping through your hair, and you’re zipping around the twists and turns of one of Colorado’s most scenic drives in a vehicle that looks like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie. That’s exactly what we experienced when we decided to rent a Polaris Slingshot from Adrenaline Driven Adventures in Grand Junction, Colorado.
We opted for a manual transmission Slingshot (though automatic is available for those who prefer), and set off on a two-hour adventure driving through Colorado National Monument. Let me tell you, friends, this was no ordinary drive. The open-air design of the Slingshot gave us unobstructed views of the stunning red rock formations and deep canyons. We felt like we were flying through the landscape, all while staying firmly (and safely) on the ground.
The team at Adrenaline Driven Adventures was fantastic. They provided a thorough orientation to the vehicle and suggested the perfect route for our time frame.
PRO TIP: If you’re in the area during warmer months, they recommended a drive up to Grand Mesa, the world’s largest flat-topped mountain. Now it’s on our bucket list!
Our two-hour rental was the perfect amount of time to blast down the highway, tour the monument, cruise around town, and even stop by our campsite for a photo op with our RV. Talk about a contrast – our big rig next to this sleek, futuristic-looking Slingshot! It was like the RV equivalent of “Take Your Sports Car to Work Day.”
I am not exaggerating when we both say that this was hands-down one of THE MOST FUN days we have had in all our travels!
2. Muddy Thrills in Telluride: Scenic RZR Rental Adventure
While the Slingshot experience was exhilarating, our side by side adventure in Telluride was off-the-charts scenic, dirty fun! We rented two Polaris RZR 4-seaters from Telluride Outfitters – one for us and one for our RV friends, Brett and Cheri. (Because the only thing better than going on an adventure is sharing it with friends, right?)
We checked into Telluride Outfitters (located in Mountain Village) then jumped into the shuttle bus for a 20-minute drive to the national forest trail.
This guided tour took us deep into the heart of the San Juan Mountains, where we experienced the true capability of these remarkable off-road vehicles. Our guide, Jackson, a Telluride local, led us through a maze of forest service roads and trails for miles. We splashed through puddles (okay, we may have intentionally hit a few at high speed), tackled rocky terrain, and stopped at breathtaking vistas we would never have been able to access in our Jeep or truck!
The four-hour tour included about two hours of actual trail time, which was plenty to get our adrenaline pumping and fully appreciate the stunning mountainous Colorado backcountry.
We drove through dense forests, aspen groves, and even stopped to visit an incredible beaver dam. Jackson shared his extensive knowledge of the area. He pointed out green meadows that would soon be filled with wild strawberries and chanterelle mushrooms. (Note to self: Come back in foraging season!)
One of the highlights? Getting absolutely covered in mud! We laughed so hard! There’s something incredibly freeing about intentionally getting dirty and not having to worry about cleaning up your own vehicle afterward. Next time we’ll remember to bring a change of clothes and maybe a towel. But if you don’t want to take a mud bath as we did, don’t worry. Just take it nice and easy through those puddles, and you’ll stay relatively clean (but hey, that’s isn’t nearly as much fun!)
PRO TIP: Wear long sleeves/pants, plus a neck gaiter to keep mud off your face!
Everyone at Telluride Outfitters was great! They provided everything we needed – helmets, goggles, and the shuttle to get us to and from the trail where the side by side vehicles live at Polaris Adventures Base Camp. Their commitment to safety and their extensive knowledge of the area made us feel comfortable pushing our limits and truly loving the experience. We had an absolute blast, and can’t wait to return for our first experience snowmobiling this winter!
Polaris Adventures Membership: For Dedicated Adventurers
If you try renting a couple of vehicles through Polaris Adventures and find yourself wanting to do them more often (trust us, you will), you may even want to consider the Polaris Adventures Select membership program. Here’s a quick overview:
- Base Membership: $149/month, accrues 4 credits per month
- Plus Membership: $399/month, accrues 12 credits per month
- Ultimate Membership: $799/month, accrues 30 credits per month
Credits can be used to rent various Polaris vehicles, with different experiences and locations requiring different numbers of credits. For example, our two-hour self-guided Slingshot rental might use 4 credits, while our four-hour guided RZR tour used 12 credits per vehicle.
The membership program offers flexibility, allowing you to share your credits with friends and family, roll over unused credits (up to 12 months’ worth), and even purchase additional credits if needed. It’s perfect for those who plan to make Polaris rentals a regular part of their lifestyle. We have the Polaris Adventures Select Plus plan, which enables us to do at least one adventure per month. As members, we are motivated to actively seek out new adventures everywhere we travel. After all, there’s no such thing as too much fun! And these have ended up being some of our favorite adventures.
Safety First, Gear Up for Adventure
All outfitters are vetted by Polaris, so you know you’re dealing with a trusted team. One thing we really appreciated about both outfitters – Adrenaline Driven Adventures and Telluride Outfitters was their commitment to safety. They fully explain how to operate the vehicles. And all necessary gear is provided with your rental, including helmets and goggles.
There are some age restrictions for driving Polaris vehicles. Generally, you need to be at least 18 to rent and drive, with some vehicles like the Slingshot requiring drivers to be 21 or older. Always check with the specific outfitter for their requirements for each Polaris Adventure. The locals really know their areas and the best places to explore. This a huge benefit, compared to trying to figure it out yourself, as it guarantees a good time!
What's Next? Our Future Polaris Adventures
We’re already planning out more Polaris Adventures for the rest of the year, and intend to mix things up – we want to try them all! Marc plans to take his mom out on a Rocky Mountain sunset off-road guided tour. This winter, we’re excited to try snowmobiling in Colorado – we’ve always wanted to try gliding through pristine snow-covered forests and across vast snowy meadows. We’re also looking forward to renting a pontoon boat in Arizona this winter, which sounds perfect for a lazy day on the lake with friends.
Of course, we can’t wait to get back in a side by side and Slingshot for more adventures in new locations. The beauty of Polaris Adventures’ rental program is that with over 270 outfitters across North America – and more being added weekly – there’s always a new experience waiting around the corner.
Ready to Rev Up Your RV Adventures?
If you’re ready to take your RV travels to the next level, we cannot recommend Polaris Adventures enough. Whether you want to rent a Polaris side by side for an off-road expedition, cruise in style in a Slingshot, tackle the slopes in a snowmobile, or spend a day on the water in a pontoon boat, there’s a Polaris adventure waiting for you.
Now, here’s our challenge to you: On your next RV trip, find a Polaris Adventures outfitter near your destination and rent a vehicle for a day. We guarantee it’ll be one of the highlights of your journey! And please snap a photo, share it, and tag us on social media @rvlovetravel – we’d love to see what you get up to and where!
Remember, life is an adventure – and some of the best adventures require wheels, a dirt trail, water, and a whole lot of horsepower! Happy travels, RV lovers, and we’ll see you out there on the next big adventure… on the road, off on a trail, or out on the water.
