Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort in South Carolina is a beautiful, lushly landscaped RV resort that welcomes Class A, Super C, and Class C motorhomes (25 feet and over). It’s a resort we have heard a lot about over the years, and we finally got the chance to experience RVing Hilton Head Island for the first time, with a 9-day stay at this resort during the month of February.

Read on for our full review of the resort, amenities, and campsites.

Location of Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort

Hilton Head Island is on the southeastern corner of South Carolina. The closest major city is Savannah, Georgia. The resort is very close to all the attractions, including the restaurants, beaches, and bike paths.

Right in the heart of everything. A great way to RV Hilton Head

Area Attractions when RVing in Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island is a highly desirable tourist destination all year round but is especially popular in the summer months. The area is loaded with beautiful beaches, many golf courses, hundreds of restaurants, shopping, and upscale tourist attractions. Wildlife preserves, museums, theaters, kayaking, boating, and fishing are all here.

The area is very bike friendly, with bike paths almost everywhere. Lots of natural beauty with beaches and also large canopy trees. It is also beautiful in that stores and restaurants are limited in the size and colors of their signs to maintain the Hilton Head Island vibe, making it feel less commercial.

While we went out on a few bike rides and ate at some excellent restaurants, the RV resort – and our campsite in particular – were so nice that we mostly stayed in the resort during this stay.

Amenities and Activities

The amenities at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort are very nice. This is a high-end resort where individuals privately own all sites. Many of the site owners allow their sites to be rented to the public when they are not staying there.

Since these are owned individually, the RV sites vary quite a bit, as the owner has personalized each. Some have large outdoor entertaining areas. Some have beautiful paver stones. Others are more simple, with a concrete driveway. But all of the RV sites within the reserve are surrounded by beautiful landscaping, with mature trees and greenery between the sites.

When renting an RV site, you can choose from all that are available for your preferred dates. Most sites are the same price, but the waterview sites are a little more. So if you spend a little time reviewing their website and each individual site, you can choose the best site, location, and amenities for your needs.

After reviewing the options online, we chose to stay in site #358. More about that in a bit.

Practical Amenities

The practical amenities for RVers at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort include curbside trash pickup, a laundry room, and a dog wash station with supplies. It is a secure, gated property with keycard entry for residents and guests. And the grounds are beautifully landscaped.

Mail / WIFI / Cable

Being a resort primarily serving owners, they regularly accept packages and mail for residents and guests. They have a small mailroom outside of the main gates where guests can collect their mail or packages while staying there. But checking current policies before shipping is always a good idea.

Cellular coverage was good in this area for the two carriers we had with us – Verizon and T-Mobile). The resort also has WIFI and cable TV available in the resort, but we didn’t try either of those.

RV Site Layout and Types At Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort

As mentioned above, the size, style, and amenities of each RV site at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort vary significantly. This is largely due to the fact that sites are individually owned under a condominium concept. So site owners can make changes and upgrades to their own sites within resort parameters. This is also a factor because the resort was established many years ago and has had multiple phases of development. That said, all sites are within a beautifully landscaped resort, so all share in that overall beauty.

Our campsite (358) was spacious, well appointed, and private

RV sites vary in aesthetics, amenities, and also in size. Nearly all sites are either back in or pull in and back out. Only a few sites could potentially be a pull-through, but even those might not work to pull through easily because of the angle of entry/exit.

All RV sites have water, sewer, and 30/50amp electrical connections. Most are either paved, have paver stones, or other hard surfaces. Some are larger than others, but most sites will accommodate RVs over 40’ in length. There are around 400 total sites on the 50-acre property, and most sites feel relatively private because of the greenery between them. But, if you look at a map, you will find that some sites might be adjacent to as many as five sites, while others only have one or two adjacent sites and back to a forest area or a lake view.

The Site We Chose For Our RV At Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort

After spending some time online looking at the various RV sites available, we decided to book site number 358. We chose that particular site because it is located in a quiet corner of the resort, near the lake, but not on the lake. Lakefront sites are an additional cost (an extra $30 per night), but all non-lakefront sites in the rental pool are listed at the same nightly fee, regardless of location or individual site amenities.

We liked that the site felt very private, as it only had sites on either side, none behind it, and only one across the street. We especially loved the large patio area with very nice furniture, a loveseat, two chairs, and a propane fire pit. This site also has a granite outdoor kitchen with a sink, fridge, gas BBQ grill, burner, and bar seating for 4. Ample outdoor umbrellas provide shade over both areas. There’s also nice landscaping and a grass yard. While not fenced, it was a good area for our dog to play. While we didn’t need a large site for our 25′ Class C motorhome, you could fit a 45′ motorhome plus two cars.

We walked the entire resort several times during our visit, and in our opinion, site 358 is one of the nicer sites. It felt like a little oasis, ideal for entertaining friends or just relaxing. This is why we spent most of our time at our campsite, instead of out and about, as it’s very rare we get to stay in campsites like that!

Searching for your ideal RV Hilton Head site

You can search the resort website by date, then RV type and area (e.g., forest, clubhouse, lake view), and view the photos and description for each site in the rental pool. This can take a bit of time, and finding your ideal site could be made much quicker and easier if the website offered the ability to search with a filter for amenities, e.g., outdoor kitchen, patio furniture, fire pit, etc.

You cannot search availability by site number, but we did find a handy workaround. Let’s say you want to stay on a specific site, and your dates are flexible. Just select any date (pick any off-season date for 2-3 days), then when you find your desired site number showing as available, select then scroll through the calendar arrows by month to see all available dates.

Rates at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort

As you would expect from a premium motorcoach resort, this is not a low-price point resort. At the time of writing, nightly rates in the winter season (November – February) are $110 for most sites and $140 for lakefront sites. Main season (March – October) rates are $120 for most sites and $150 per night for lakefront sites. Taxes are on top of these rates. Reservations require a 50% upfront deposit, some of which is non-refundable regardless of when you cancel. A partial deposit refund is possible, depending on how much notice you provide.

Summary

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort is a very beautiful, established RV resort in a highly desirable location, with individually owned and rented sites available for guests. It is indeed a lovely place to stay, but only if you have a Class A or Class C motorhome at least 25’ long. While not as new and modern as other RV resorts we have stayed (Palm Beach Motorcoach Resort, Camp Margaritaville Auburndale – both in Florida), this is definitely a place we would love to return to, and recommend to RVers who enjoy these kinds of RV resorts and amenities. It’s ideal for motorhome travelers who prefer glamping, not camping.

  1. Hi. I follow you and read many of your reviews. This one on Hilton Head caught my eye. We are owners there. We rented a few times and it was such a warm and welcoming spot that eventually we bought! We are huge pickleball players and we just got 6 new designated courts so everyone was thrilled. HH has a little bit for everyone. So glad you enjoyed it. I wish we were here to have met you. Maybe one day on the road our paths will cross. Until then happy trails!
