Valley Vista RV Park, Benson, AZ (Encore/TC) Review

We were excited to reach sunny and warm Benson Arizona and the Valley Vista RV Park. Especially after narrowly escaping some unseasonably cold weather in San Antonio at our campsite at Medina Lake RV Resort.  For more detail and specifics of Valley Vista RV park, sites, and amenities – including pros and cons – read on.

Location of Valley Vista RV Resort

This is an RV Park near Benson Arizona. The closest larger city is Tucson Arizona, which is a popular winter destination for RVers.  Partly because of the warm dry climate. The roads into the area are very good since it is right off of Hwy 80, just south of Interstate 10.

Benson is a fairly small town, but has many restaurants, grocery stores, hardware and auto parts stores, and nearby Tucson would have virtually any store needed. There is a train line in the area, but the train noise is not offensively loud, nor is the road noise from Hwy 80 as it is not a major highway. The road noise is more noticeable at the front of the RV park. Road noise would be significantly reduced towards the back of the park. There is a convenience store very conveniently located adjacent to the campground, and grocery stores are about a 5-10 minute drive away in downtown Benson.

Area Attractions

The seasonal residents of the RV Park all raved about how many area attractions there are nearby including hiking in Cochise, the Chiricahua National Monument. Tucson and Bisbee are very popular historical western towns and mining towns. There is Kartchner Caverns and Fort Bowie National historic site as well. Unfortunately, we were working a lot the week we stayed here and didn’t get out much at all to explore, so will need to check things out next time. There are decent shoulders on the roads nearby for advanced cyclists.

Amenities at Valley Vista RV Park

Though a fairly small and simple park, it actually has a very nice pool and hot tub area. There is a nice clubhouse and laundry as well. We met many people while we were there who had been coming to this park every winter for 5 – 10 years which says a lot about the staff and feel of the park. We were impressed that even such a small park would have organized water aerobics and evening activities while we were there.

Mail / Packages

This park has many seasonal residents and do allow mail and package delivery. Address is 1060 S Hwy 80, Benson AZ 85602.

WIFI / Cable

The RV park paperwork shows nearly 70 TV Channels, and multiple options for paid high speed internet access. We use our own data with Verizon AT&T and T-Mobile. All three carriers had strong signal between 3-4 bars of LTE.

RV Sites at Valley Vista RV Resort

This is a relatively small and simple park as snowbird parks go. All internal roads and sites are dirt/gravel, and there are approximately 175 sites. The gravel and sites are well maintained despite being a natural surface. All sites are full hook-up. There are about 50 sites with 50amp, available for a daily uncharge of a few bucks. The remaining 125 sites are 30amp electricity.

There is a slight slant/grade to the entire park, so you might need a few leveling blocks to get level. We actually needed to park backwards in our site to get level as our motorhome prefers an uphill grade.  Our particular site had a downhill grade when parked the preferred direction, The sites are about average spaciousness and vary in size. The roads are relatively wide and easy to maneuver even with larger RVs. Speaking of larger RVs, we would estimate that more than 50 percent of the sites could accommodate RVs over 40 feet.

We were in site 125 which was one of the largest in the campground.  It used to be two sites, but they took down the center divider and turned it into a pull through.  We ended up parking in it the opposite direction than they intended because our gas motorhome prefers a slightly uphill site, so it was much easier to level pointing the other direction.

PROS

  • Many area attractions
  • Friendly staff and feel to park
  • Nice pool area

CONS

  • Some train and road noise
  • All dirt and gravel, and a dry climate so it can be a bit dusty
  • Grade of park made it challenging for our RV, but most seemed reasonably level

Rates at Valley Vista RV Park

We didn’t see what the rates are for the few sites available to the public.  There is an up charge of a few bucks per night if staying in one of the 50amp sites.  Being Thousand Trails members with the Trails Collection upgrade, we do not pay a nightly fee to stay here.

Summary

Valley Vista RV Park near Benson Arizona is a relatively small and simple RV park. But is well maintained and has nice amenities for it’s size. The staff were great and the fact that many seasonal residents have been coming for over 10 years said a lot about the atmosphere.

About our stay

We visited here in December 2017. The day time temperatures were in the 70s, and night time temps in the 50s, with nearly full sun every day. The internet connectivity, and relatively quiet environment were good for us to get some work done, but unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any of the many local attractions. We would definitely come stay here again, especially since we can stay here with no nightly fee thanks to our Thousand Trails membership and Trails Collection upgrade.

It is part of our upgraded Thousand Trails membership. You can learn more about how this membership saves us thousands every year HERE.

  1. Great review! I appreciate knowing what the cell data signals are in Benson, and its awesome you test on 3 different carriers. The Escapees Benson park is directly next door to this Encore park, and if you drove through it, you’d probably agree that it is a pretty stunning park (Even Technomadia put a deposit at the Escapees park: http://www.technomadia.com/2016/02/last-stops-in-arizona-tucson-benson-willcox/ )… but it is not “free” to stay there with our Escapees membership ($15-20 per day). Whereas the Encore park is NO extra charge since we have it included in our Trails Collection, so staying at Encore – like you did – makes a lot more sense monetarily, and it’s nice to read the positive comments you posted on that park. Thank you!

    • Glad you found it helpful guys! We did go to the Escapees park as well to visit friends and really liked it. We like being able to test cell coverage with all 3 carriers now. And also love our Trails Collection, saving us even more money. Hope you are both doing well – safe travels!
