23 Gift Ideas Dad Will Actually Use and Love
Ready to learn more, and save with a few discount codes too? Let’s jump in!
Ooni Pizza Oven
One of the hottest new cooking items is this new award winning OONI Koda Pizza Oven. They are available in 12 and 16 sizes, and you can choose between wood, gas, or multi fuel source models. Our top pick is the Ooni Koda 12 gas model – the best bang for your buck and ideal for RV camping. This portable, countertop pizza oven makes delicious stone baked pizzas fast. The oven heats up in 15 minutes to over 900 degrees, and cooks your pizzas in just one minute each. High heat, fast cooking is what makes wood-fired pizza so special!
Strongback Chairs
The best way to make Dad feel supported is with these awesome chairs. We have owned and loved our first two Strongback Elite and Guru chairs for over five years. They are incredibly comfortable with lumbar support, and excellent ergonomics. Now we also have one their stylish new Patio and Rocker chairs, which look good at home as well as the RV. The Patio chairs fold in half, and while they aren’t as compact as the camping chairs, they are similar in weight, and still fairly easy to carry. For us, these chairs are WELL worth the price. You can thank us later, or rather, Dad will be thanking YOU for years to come
Ryobi Plus One+ Tools
I (Marc) love my Ryobi tools with interchangeable batteries. I used our friend Brett’s extensively during our Ultimate RV Makeover. Since then, I’ve built my own collection. Some travel with me in the RV, and some stay at home. Ryobi has a huge range of tools for most any job. So you can browse to find which one(s) would be best for your tool man. But this Six Tool Set would be great!
YETI Insulated Cups
Looking for an inexpensive but valuable gift your dad can use every day. Get one of the many different YETI cups. These keep drinks hot or cold for a long time. We have multiple styles and sizes of YETI cups, using them daily for years, both at home and on the road. They come in a huge variety of styles, shapes, sizes and colors. Here is just one example, click the link to browse all options.
NOCO Jump Starters
We rarely go anywhere without our NOCO Jump Starter. We regularly use it to jump start cars or RVs – whether ours or to help out others. We have a bigger NOCO Genius Boost Pro GB150 as it capable of jumpstarting huge 8.3L diesel engines (which we did many times in our motorhome – check out our detailed review here.) But if you are just using it to jumpstart a regular vehicle, we recommend this smaller, less expensive GB50 unit, as it would still work for most cars and trucks.
Jackery Portable Power Stations And Solar
This is a fully portable solar generator bundle that you can use to power many devices. The compatible and compact folding solar panels make this is an easy go-anywhere and stay-powered solution. Jackery offers a range of smaller and larger units, depending on your power demands. The bundle linked here is a Jackery Explore 300 Portable Power Station with a SolarSaga foldable 100W panel. This is a good solution for many adventurers, and will come in especially handy for road trips or when out boondocking.
ThermoPro Meat Thermometer
Whether Dad likes cooking his steak to perfection, or just wants to ensure his chicken has reached the minimum safe temperature (165F) he’ll need a good quality meat thermometer. The ThermoPro is easy to open and operate. The motion sensor enables the large ‘easy to read’ digital display to appear when you extend the 4.3″ food grade stainless steel probe. A large 2” backlit screen rotates 180 degrees if needed. It cleans quickly and easily and turns off when you close the probe into the handle. If you cook a lot – as we do – whether it’s on the BBQ, stovetop, or oven – it is definitely worth paying extra for quality. This is one very useful item we use at least once or twice every day!
KeeQii Fire Proof Document Bag
These fireproof bags are designed to protect your most essential documents – licenses, passports, birth/marriage certificates, cash, photos etc – from fire and water. Made from tough, non-itchy fiberglass, silicone-coated fireproof material, they are fireproof up to 1832℉ and 100% waterproof. We know they work, as we put them to the test in our RV fire safety video. The latest version with a bright reflective color makes it easier to find. Our firebag and contents (mostly) survived, after a 15-minute 2000℉ fire inferno, and drenched in water when the fire department put it out! We were amazed to find the bag and contents still around 80% intact! These are portable and convenient for your travels or at home. This 2-pack includes a document bag and a money bag.
Portable Carbon Monoxide Detector
While working with local and state-level Fire Safety professionals on our RV Fire Safety video, we also learned much about the dangers of Carbon Monoxide… the silent killer. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can cause harm even at LOW levels but can quickly become deadly at high levels. After learning more about the risks, we followed the fire chief’s advice and bought this small, portable detector that is great for travel. We take it with us in our car, RVs, hotels – anytime we’re away from home where our CO detector is permanently mounted. A low-level CO detector is important, as many other CO alarms sound at a higher level of CO is detected, when you may already be impaired. The portability and peace of mind of this unit are well worth it for us. The Fire Chief says he won’t go anywhere without it and now, neither do we!
Proven Lock Hitch Locks
Cheap locks are a better deterrent than no lock at all. But, if you’re serious about securing and protecting your trailer from theft with the best quality locks, we recommend those offered by Proven Industries, like coupler locks, hitch locks, puck locks, and more. We have model 2178 which fits most 2″ hitches. But make sure it is the right fit before ordering. Locks are custom-made for each connection type, but you can have matching keys for all your locks. Made in the USA from top-quality materials. They are not cheap, but worth it, compared to the time and money lost if your things are stolen! The price depends on the lock. We love it!
RUFFWEAR Cooling Vest For Dad's Best Friend
Our pup Sunny gets overheated easily on walks and long hikes. So when things heat up, we grab an evaporative cooling vest, soak it with water, put it on him and head out. Before that, he would stop in every shady spot he could to rest. Now, we can head out for much bigger walks with him, and he can keep up, staying cool, happy, and comfortable. We highly recommend getting one of these cooling vests for your dog this summer, especially if your dog has a black and/or thick coat. When your dog is cool and happy, you will be too!
Dog Training, Treating, and Walking Pouch
We call this the “doggy daddy bag” as I’m usually the one out walking our dog Sunny and picking up his poop. It’s super handy to just grab it and go, knowing we have everything we need while out on a walk. It’s adjustable for your waist, has several zipper pockets – for treats, a roll of poop bags, and even a section to carry cash, cards, etc. And it has a hidden bottle holder pouch for the portable water bottle shown below. There’s even a clip to hold the used poop bags until you can get to a trash can. This bag has proven to be even more useful than we imagined, and have used it multiple times a day for two years. It’s a great gift for dog lovers who like to stay organized and always have what they need ‘on-the-go’.
MalsiPree Dog Water Bottle
This awesome portable dog water bottle is designed to fit into the hidden pouch of the waist belt (above). We love it and use it daily – whether out on walks, driving in the car, or on road trips. It’s easy to operate single-handedly – just press the button and water flows into the cup area for the dog to drink. Just press the button when your dog is done drinking, and the water flows back into the container – no wasted water! The bottle holds about 12oz, has a leak-proof silicone seal, and comes with a wrist strap for easy carrying. This is one of our favorite and most used dog items.
RhinoFlex RV Sewer Hose
It might seem like you’re playing a joke on Dad when buying him a sewer hose. But spilling sewer waste water is no laughing matter, especially if it ends up on him! RV sewer hoses wear out over time, and there are ugly, messy, and smelly consequences if they fail while dumping your tanks! Don’t cheap out on a sewer hose. It’s worth it to buy a good quality one, that will make the most unpleasant job easier, and less likely to end up in disaster. Bonus idea: Plan a movie night to watch the movie RV with Robin Williams, before giving Dad a RhinoFlex Sewer Hose, and he will love it even more!
Power Watchdog Electrical Surge Protector
Every RVer should invest in a portable surge protector to protect your RV electrical system from faulty power pedestals, or power surges at the campground. The Hughes Power Watchdog is a great product, Bluetooth-enabled, and can save you from expensive damage to your RV if something goes wrong. The Smart Circuit Analyzer shuts down power to your RV if a dangerous event occurs, sending an alert to your smartphone. The built-in ‘dog face’ light instantly lets you know if power is OK (white) or not (red). And there’s only a 4-second delay power on after plugging it in. These are available in 30amp and 50amp, and excellent for protecting your RV.
Where Should We Camp Next? Camping Books
Some of the best camping available is in and around our beautiful national parks around the country. But how to decide where to stay? After all, not every national park campground has hookups, or can accommodate every size RV. And what other things are there to do in the surrounding area? Dad’s travel planning will be much easier, with the latest book by camping legends Jeremy and Stephanie Puglisi. Where Should We Camp Next? – National Parks has 300+ camping recommendations in and around America’s National Parks, Monuments, and Seashores. This is the sequel to their previous bestselling book: “Where Should We Camp Next – a 50-State Guide to Amazing Campgrounds & Other Unique Outdoor Accommodations”. Both books are excellent, available in print and digital, and will be a great asset to Dad’s library.
RV LIFE Pro / RV Trip Wizard Membership
The best RV trip planner we have found so far is RV Trip Wizard, which you can get as part of an RV LIFE Pro subscription. It’s a powerful, online trip planning tool that provides RV-Safe GPS Directions, and integrates with the RV LIFE App and RV Life Pro suite of tools, which now also includes Maintain My RV. Use RV Trip Wizard (using computer web browser) to plan your RV road trips, find great campgrounds and gas stations along the way, confirm RV-safe routes for your rig, and track budget and expenses for each trip. You can access your trip in the RV LIFE app on your smartphones, and even download to use when offline. RV-specific data, like height and weight, helps avoid low clearances, steep grades and propane restrictions as you travel from state to state. So Dad can relax and enjoy the drive on travel days, with an RV-safe route planned in advance.

Harvest Host Membership
Harvest Hosts is a terrific membership that allows you to stay overnight for free at unique locations like wineries, breweries, attractions, golf clubs, farms, and more – in a self-contained RV. This allows you to escape the campgrounds and have truly unique and memorable experiences that you just can’t put a price on! While overnight stays are free, guests are encouraged to support businesses with a purchase. A Harvest Hosts annual membership is the gift that keeps on giving… all year long…with unforgettable stays! If Dad is a keen golfer, be sure to add the Golf Club option, so he can also stay at golf and country clubs as he travels, and get in a round or two of exercise, before the 19th hole.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Keep your family safe on the road with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), an important safety item for every RVer. This allows you to keep an eye on the tire pressure and temperature of every tire – on your RV, trailer, tow vehicle – before and during the drive. The TST 507 TPMS comes with a color monitor, and you can choose how many sensors, and which type, depending on your needs. You can see how it works in our in-depth blog and video review of the TST507 unit here.
Find the various TPMS models and options at these RV-focused sellers. They both offer excellent service, and can help you decide which one is best for you:
